Voluntary Enlistment
2018 I Rotterdam
Voluntary Enlistment i is a video I made about the intimidating growth of globalised tourism. The video loop is about legs of tourists marching left and right following the queuing lines of an airport. This envisages the new method of globalised capitalism, where the consumers themselves become conveyor products. Voluntary Enlistment was specially made for a shop window gallery in an area of significant gentrification in Rotterdam. It reflects the urban environment, full of consuming tourists in this recently redecorated inner city. The video loop further reflects the new-times’ artist who thinks that his/her reflection legitimates his/her participation in this dirty game.
That was the last time that I had travelled with the aim of showing a work of mine.
