Personalised Crosses

Personalised Crosses is a series of needle-work on shopping bags. When I moved back from Zurich to Basel it attracted my attention that our migrant-dominated neighbourhood is full of Swiss flags on the shoulders of passers-by. The reason was simple: the nearest store’s shopping bag looked exactly the same as the Swiss flag. Whenever I saw a walking flag, it raised the question in me: We all have a cross to bear, don’t we? To personalise this symbol of burden, I embroidered these bags with different red and white motives. Some, are still in use as a bag, and some are in a frame on a wall.
