Caution! Wet Paint

2016 I Zürich

Caution! Wet Paint is a performance about the challenges of being a migrant. First, I paint the Turkish flag. Then, the Hungarian flag right onto the first one. At last, I paint the Swiss flag up onto both. Although I paint rather slowly during the performance, the time is not enough for the colours to dry. That is how the paint mingles and as a result, all the red turns into brownish and the white looks dirty.
I was born in Istanbul to a Bosnian-Macedonian father whose family had migrated from the Balkans to Turkey when he was a toddler. In my early childhood we moved to Hungary; to my mother’s homeland. Later I left Hungary for Switzerland.
