Bâtiment75

2013 I Mulhouse

Bâtiment75 (Building75) is an industrial memorial I drew in an empty factory, in Mulhouse. From the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, this city was the flourishing centre of France's textile industry. Back in the 19th century, Mulhouse was world-famous for its floral pattern textiles. These controversial days of European production have passed, and the textile industry has been moved away. Bâtiment75 is a mural, where historical floral patterns of the local fabric industry were washed into the dust layers of the unused DMC factory. The huge and fading flowers are tributes to all those workers suffering for the glory of the European Industry.
